Rare Old African Inyelipki helm mask from the Igala , Nigeria.Hand carved from a single piece of wood.
Size: 35 cm high.

This Inyelipki helmet mask dates from the mid of the 20th century and was purchased in my private collection in 2016, with a certificate of authenticity.

Inyelipki, a mask associated with the cult of Egu, would come out on the last night of the funeral for a dance called Etogba. He danced to the house of the deceased and proceeded to a kind of altar called Ihi, which was essentially an exhibition of spears, spoons and cowrie shells placed there in honor of the dead.
