Large Authentic & Traditional African Dogon Sirige Mask - Mali.

This Sirige mask is dated from the mid of the 20th century and comes with a Certificate of Authenticity.
Impressive 126 cm tall Dogon sirige mask from Mali. This incredible mask style the Dogon represents the ancestors.
The bottom face section is a Hogon house.
The mask representing both the sunrise and sunset as well as the past and future generations.
The dancer allows the mask to touch the ground and rise back upwards in an arch to report the setting sun. The dancers of the sirige mask are considered the most skilled. They use their teeth to balance up to 6 meter high masks.
Like all Dogon masks, the sirige belongs to the afterworld, the realm of where life and death meet.
Sirige masks are among more than seventy-eight different Dogon mask types, ranging from animals and humans to abstract configurations. Siringe masks facilitated the transition of the deceased into the realm of ancestorhood during complex funerary rituals organized by Ava (or Awa), a men's society. Such masks are among the most famous and sought-after works in African art.
